IT’S FINALLY HERE!

It seems like December flew by, yet Christmas always seemed so far away. Now that the big guy is coming tonight to leave presents under the tree, I’m a bit sad to see it go. I go through this every single year! Maybe this year will be different since I’m hosting New Year’s Eve for my family and friends; I CANNOT wait! I’m hoping the anticipation of my favorite day of the year will help me be less sad when I’m taking down the tree. Do you leave your tree up until New Year’s Day? I’ve always taken mine down a day or two after Christmas. I love cleaning the house really thoroughly after pine needles have coated every surface for the past month.

O' Christmas Tree, O' Christmas Tree!

Delightfully crooked, with just the right amount of quirky!

A beautiful Christmas jumble!

CONFESSIONS OF A BAD ELF

When I sit back and reflect on my Christmas activity through the month of December, I feel a little guilty. There are so many things that I didn’t do! Between work travel, weekend commitments, and holiday hustle, I barely had time to online shop. We didn’t even go see SANTA for crying out loud! I didn’t make cookies, put lights on the outside of my house, or even put up the kid’s advent calendar! Also, my Christmas cards that I spent two hours writing out are still sitting on my nightstand waiting to be stuffed with that special family portrait that I never got around to taking…such a bad elf.

Hanging stockings without a fireplace!

But you know what we did do? We spent lots of quality time with our friends and family. We went to look at Christmas lights several times, and soaked it all in with Laila and Carson. We snuggled up on the couch and watched Home Alone approximately 575 times and every other Christmas movie you could think of. And we took time to relax and unwind with each other after busy days running around doing last minute Christmas errands. Plus the kids got to decorate the odd gingerbread house here and there. All in all, I’m not going to lose sleep over what I didn’t accomplish this Christmas; I’m going to cozy up with my children and husband, and I’m going to be happy and thankful for the amazing month that we just whirlwind blew through.

Merry Christmas friends (and Happy Hanukkah at sundown tonight!) I hope your day is merry and bright!

Is there anything more heartwarming than receiving a gift that someone made for you?

Homemade gifts are my absolute favorite thing to do for holidays, you can’t beat that special touch that only DIY goodies have! In the past I’ve whipped up a bunch of desserts and given them out to friends and neighbors, but this year I decided to step it up a notch. I’ve been using Young Living Essential Oils for the the past 6 months, and they have truly changed my life. So when I thought about what to do for gifts this year, it was a no-brainer!

I love to wrap and dress gifts, to create fun tags and labels with my “faux-ligraphy” and to really just present a beautiful package. That’s one reason why I love to give DIY gifts; you can really get creative with the presentation. Here are the Five Days of Gifts that I featured on my essential oils Instagram page @minty.lace.

Recipes

1. Sweet Dreams Pillow and Linen Spray: Nothing puts me to sleep like this blend. I have a roller ball with this mixture that I put behind the kids’ ears right before bed, a diffuser blend that we turn on each night, and this glorious spray! I spray our pillows each night before bed and it’s just the most relaxing scent. Bonus for me, I take this when I travel about once a month. I don’t sleep well in hotels at ALL, and this spray helps me immensely.

Sweet Dreams Linen Spray

Recipe: In a 2oz glass bottle, put 7 drops of Lavender oil and 5 drops Cedarwood oil. Add a tsp of either unscented, alcohol-free witch hazel or the rose infused version. Top the rest with distilled water and you’re good to go! Spray sheets nightly for all of the sleepytime vibes.

2. Elle Rollerball Perfume: I’ve always been super obsessed with perfumes (just ask my husband, it’s a little out of control) and I had too much fun creating this blend. I decided to name it Elle and it smells lovely! I tend to gravitate towards floral scents with earthy undertones, and I’m loving the exotic feel that Ylang Ylang gives this scent.

Elle Rollerball Perfume Using Essential Oils

In a 5ml glass rollerball bottle add the following: 5 drops each of Ylang Ylang, Grapefruit, and Orange, and 2 drops of Patchouli. Top the rest off with either fractionated Coconut Oil or Jojoba Oil.

3. Les Fleurs Bath Soak: I’m not one to turn down a nice, hot bath; especially when I get to add a fun spa treatment to it! This bath soak smells like a flower garden and helps to detox the body while soothing aches and pains. Win win!

Lavender and Joy Bath Soak Recipe

Recipe: In a bowl mix 2 cups Epsom Salt, 1 cup Pink Himalyan Sea Salt, 10 drops Lavender Oil, 5 drops Joy Oil, and 1/4 cups dried Lavender flowers. Divvy up mixture into 4oz or 8oz glass containers and decorate as you like!

4. Thieves and Purification Foot Soak: Now, I don’t know many people who regularly soak their feet, but I’m here to tell you – it’s so relaxing! I created this recipe for a member of my family who shall remain nameless. They have less than pleasant smelling tootsies, let’s leave it at that! Out of curiosity I did one too and it was such a pampering treat that I decided to give some out this year! Add this to a large container of hot water (not steaming, and only large enough to put both feet in) and soak your aching feet for 5-15 minutes. You’ll feel so relaxed after! Bonus – Thieves is a known immune system supporting blend, and it’s best absorbed through the feet.

Detoxifying and Relaxing Foot Soak Recipe

Recipe: In a bowl mix 1/2 cup Epsom salt, 1/2 cup Pink Himalayan Sea Salt, and 4 drops each of Thieves and Purification essential oils. Divvy up into small glass jars (I used 2oz jars) and label. Add mixture to hot water and soak feet to ease aches and assist in detoxifying the body.

5. Grapefruit and Mint Sugar Scrub: My favorite bath product is body scrub, hands down! I love the feeling of exfoliating my skin, it helps me feel so clean and refreshed. Not to mention the anti-aging and beautifying benefits that it offers to the skin! I make all kinds of different body scrubs from sugar and coconut oil, but this blend is always my favorite! It’s festive and invigorating, perfect for waking up in the morning shower!

Invigorating Grapefruit and Peppermint Sugar Body Scrub Recipe

Recipe: In a large bowl, mix the following together: 1 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup solid Coconut Oil, 10 drops Grapefruit Oil, and 5 drops Peppermint Oil. Whip together with a spoon and divvy up into glass jars! This keeps nicely in the shower, and smells heavenly.

I hope you enjoy! I would love to hear what homemade gifts you’re handing out this year, leave me a comment let me know! P.S. 4 more sleeps!!

Only 9 more sleeps until Christmas!

Ah Gift Guides…the bulk of my google history in December. I love them, mostly because I find all sorts of fun things that I normally wouldn’t have thought of. When I put together my gift list for Michael this year, all of these things were on it. I love all things pretty, and I tend to gift my girlfriends with that in mind.

1. 52 Lists Journal: I am hooked on this journal, and now that I’m almost finished with my 2016 version (found here) I cannot wait to start this one on January 1! They’re not limited by years, I just chose to do one in 2016 and the other one in 2017.

2. Lighthearted Candle: I switched to only natural wax candles this year (soy, coconut, etc) and I’m loving all of the fun candles that Anthropologie sells. This one stuck out to me in particular because it’s lovely, and the glass can be reused once it’s finished!

3. Write Drunk Pencils: If you follow me on Instagram (@elle.at.home) you may have seen my post about these. I love a fun literary theme, and these made the top of my stocking-stuffer list! They have a bunch of fun sayings and so many other pretty things to browse through.

4. Bring Me Wine Socks: I mean, who doesn’t need these socks?? Super cute, super useful, super affordable. All of the wins!

5. Let’s Do This Notepad: Are you a list maker? I am…lists for all of the things, plus lists for my lists! You get the picture. I adore all of Rifle Paper Co’s products, but I love the list pads in particular. Plus, the flagship store is local and right down the street from me! You can’t beat getting to meet Anna Rifle in her very own design studio!

6. Garance Doré Book: I have been a fan girl of Garance Doré for YEARS. As a matter of fact, I have many of her prints in my bathroom! This book was a fun read; filled with tips, designer gems, and beauty. It makes a great coffee table edition!

7. Gold Flask: I tend to gravitate towards anything gold or rose gold, and this pretty little flask caught my eye! Don’t get me wrong, I don’t pack this baby in my purse for work drinks. But it’s fun to have in case you’re heading to a get together and aren’t sure if they stock your favorite gin (mine is St. Augustine Distillery gin, shop local!) and you need to doctor up your club soda with lime!

I mainly put this together because it’s so much fun, but I do hope you liked my picks. I’d love to hear what’s on your wishlist this year! Any future Gift Guide requests? Leave me a comment and let me know!
